This buck driver is a great budget single-mode solution for 1S-3S input and a 3V LED.  It runs very efficiently with 2S-3S input, but can work down to 1S, where is it especially useful for low vF efficiency (such as with red/amber LEDs).  

Specifications:

  • Single mode only (100%)
  • No low voltage protection (use protected batteries)
  • No reverse-polarity protection
  • 1A or 2A constant current output (as long as the input voltage = led forward voltage + ~0.5V).
  • 17mm diameter
  • 5.4mm height
