Boost

Boost drivers are useful for when your input voltage is lower than the voltage needed to drive your LED(s).  For example, a single alkaline/NiMH has a nominal voltage of 1.5V/1.2V, which won't even turn on most high-output LEDs, which typically require 3V+.  The solution is to use a boost driver.
